What is Guna Milan (Kundli Matching)?
Guna Milan is the Vedic astrology system for checking marriage compatibility. It compares the Moon nakshatras (birth stars) of the bride and groom across eight kootas — Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi — scoring them out of 36 total gunas.
How many gunas should match for marriage?
Traditionally, 18 out of 36 is the minimum acceptable score. 24–29 is considered very good and 30–36 excellent. But the total alone isn't everything — which kootas matched matters too. A score of 20 with full Nadi and Bhakoot is often preferred over 26 with Nadi dosha.
What is Nadi Dosha? Is it serious?
Nadi Dosha occurs when both partners have the same Nadi (Aadi, Madhya or Antya) — scoring 0 of 8 points. It is considered the most serious dosha in classical matching, linked to health and progeny. Exception: if both are born in the same nakshatra but different padas, the dosha is traditionally cancelled.
What is Bhakoot Dosha?
Bhakoot Dosha occurs when the Moon rashis form an unfavourable pair (anything other than 7th from each other), scoring 0 of 7. It is cancelled (Bhakoot bhanga) when both rashis share the same lord — e.g. Taurus–Libra (both Venus) or Aries–Scorpio (both Mars).

Yes — just enter the birth date and time. The calculator finds the Moon's position at birth and derives the janma nakshatra and pada automatically (Lahiri ayanamsa). If the birth time is unknown or falls very close to a star boundary, we'll ask you to verify with your kundli.
Do I need the exact birth time?
It helps. The Moon moves about 13° a day, so an exact time pins down the nakshatra precisely. If you leave the time blank we calculate for noon and flag the result for verification. The birth place isn't needed — only the date, time and time zone.
Can a low Guna Milan score be fixed?
Classical texts list cancellations (bhanga) for several doshas, and many families consult an astrologer for remedies (upaya). A low score is traditionally a signal to look deeper at both full horoscopes — dashas, Mangal dosha and overall chart strength — not an automatic rejection.
